Born in 1803, Anne was the daughter of John Rutherford, a writer and lawyer, and his wife Anne Bowes. She married Walter Scott in 1826, when he was already a successful and established author, having published works such as "Waverley" and "Rob Roy." Anne's life was marked by tragedy and sorrow. She lost her first child, a son named Charles, just days after his birth in 1828. Two years later, in 1830, her husband passed away following a stroke. Anne herself succumbed to ill health in 1833, at the age of just 30. Despite the hardships she faced, Anne is remembered for her strength and support of her husband's literary career. She is said to have been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement to Walter, and is believed to have been the model for several characters in his novels, including the heroines of "Anne of Geierstein" and "The Bride of Lammermoor."
