Colonies Procession

EDITORS COMMENTS
This image captures a moment from the 'Tour of the Colonies' royal procession, circa 1900. The Tour of the Colonies was a grand exhibition held in London to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, marking her sixty-year reign. In this scene, the royal party, including the Queen and members of the British monarchy, make their way towards the House of Lords in a magnificent procession. The Queen, dressed in a resplendent gown and adorned with the Order of the Garter, rides in a carriage drawn by four white horses. Her consort, Prince Albert, walks beside her, while other members of the royal family follow in carriages and on horseback. The procession is illuminated by lanterns, adding an ethereal glow to the nighttime scene. The crowd, eager to catch a glimpse of their monarch, lines the streets, waving flags and cheering. The atmosphere is electric, filled with excitement and pride for their country and their Queen. The Tour of the Colonies was a testament to the British Empire's global reach and power, and this procession was a symbol of the unity and strength of the British people. This photograph is a precious piece of history, offering a glimpse into a bygone era and a reminder of the grandeur and pomp of the British monarchy during the late Victorian period. The lanterns, the horses, the carriages, and the cheering crowd all come together to create a scene that transports us back in time.
