Johann Heinrich Schönberg's masterpiece, "The Oath of Hannibal," is a striking representation of the legendary moment when the Carthaginian military leader Hannibal Barca swore an oath of loyalty to his men before embarking on his famous invasion of Italy in 218 BC. Painted during the Baroque period in Germany, Bavaria, this oil painting is currently housed in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (German National Museum) in Nuremberg. The painting depicts Hannibal standing at the center, surrounded by his soldiers, who raise their swords in a show of allegiance. The dramatic use of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and tension, while the rich colors and intricate details bring the scene to life.
