EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the majestic RMS Olympic, a pride and joy of the White Star Line fleet in the early 20th century. Often mistakenly identified as her sister ship, the RMS Titanic, this image showcases the beauty and grandeur of the RMS Olympic in its true light. Built between 1910 and 1911, the RMS Olympic was the first of the three Olympic-class ocean liners, which also included the ill-fated RMS Titanic and RMS Britannic. With a length of 882 feet and a beam of 92 feet, the RMS Olympic was one of the largest and most luxurious passenger ships of her time. Designed for the transatlantic passenger trade, the RMS Olympic offered unparalleled comfort and leisure facilities for her passengers. The ship boasted elegant dining rooms, opulent lounges, a swimming pool, a Turkish bath, and even a squash court. The ship's grand staircase, featured in this photograph, was a symbol of the White Star Line's commitment to providing a luxurious and memorable travel experience. Powered by steam, the RMS Olympic was a true marvel of engineering. With a top speed of 21 knots, she could make the transatlantic crossing in just over six days. This photograph captures the RMS Olympic in all her glory, as she sails serenely through the water, leaving a trail of steam in her wake. The RMS Olympic went on to have a long and distinguished career, serving the White Star Line until 1935. She was eventually sold for scrap in 1937. This photograph, taken in the early days of her service, is a reminder of the golden age of ocean liner travel and the enduring allure of the sea.
