EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the cover of a historical book titled "Historia de los bandos de los zegríes y abencerrajes, caballeros moros de Granada, de las civiles guerras que hubo en ella... hasta que el rey don Fernando quinto la ganó" (The History of the Bands of the Zegríes and Abencerrajes, Moorish Knights of Granada, of the Civil Wars that Happened There... Until King Fernando the Fifth Conquered It). The image features the Spanish Golden Age writer Pérez de Hita, Ginés (1544-1619), whose work is depicted on the cover. The book was printed in Barcelona in 1610, at the printing house of Sebastian Matevat and Lorenzo Dau (not the company). Commissioned by Raphael Vines, a merchant of books, this engraving is a testament to the rich literary heritage of Spain during the Golden Age. The intricate design on the cover showcases the Moorish knights of Granada, reflecting the complex history of the region. This precious piece of history is now preserved in the Biblioteca de Catalunya (National Library of Catalonia), a testament to the enduring value of literature and the power of the written word.
