Children of King Alfonso XIII and Queen Ena of Spain
Photographic postcard showing the three eldest children of King Alfonso XIII (1886-1941) and Queen Ena of Spain (1887-1969). From left is Alfonsito, Prince of the Asturias (1907-1938), in the middle the Infanta Beatriz (1909-) and on the right, Infante Jaime (1908-1975). The couple's eldest child suffered from haemophilia, and Infante Jaime was rendered deaf by a childhood illness. One other son was also haemophiliac and eventually it was their grandson, King Juan Carlos, (the offspring of their healthy son, Juan) who came to the throne in 1975 after the death of General Francisco Franco.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant photograph captures a moment in the lives of the royal children of King Alfonso XIII and Queen Ena of Spain. From left to right, we see Alfonsito, Prince of the Asturias, Infanta Beatriz, and Infante Jaime. The eldest child, Alfonsito, suffered from haemophilia, a genetic condition that would tragically cut his life short at a young age. Meanwhile, Infante Jaime was rendered deaf by a childhood illness, adding another layer of challenge to their already complex family dynamic.
Despite these hardships, this image exudes a sense of innocence and sibling camaraderie. It is a reminder that behind the grandeur and opulence often associated with royalty are real people facing real struggles. The legacy of this royal family would eventually be carried on by their grandson King Juan Carlos after the tumultuous period following General Francisco Franco's death.
As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time from around 1909, let us remember not only the titles they held but also the humanity that binds us all together. In their faces we see echoes of joy and sorrow, hope and resilience - qualities that transcend any crown or kingdom.
