EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the historic Crown Public House, located in the heart of Battersea, London. The image presents a corner view of the pub, with its red brick facade and ornate detailing, which once stood proudly at the intersection of Chelsea Bridge Road and Winstanley Road. The Crown PH, as it was affectionately known to locals, was a beloved institution in the community, serving generations of patrons with a warm welcome and a well-poured pint. The pub, which was operated by the Hoare and Company Limited, had a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. However, by July 2018, the Crown PH had met its unfortunate end. The building, which was a cherished part of the local landscape, was demolished to make way for a new development. The back of the print reveals the address of the pub, Nothing for the Crown, Battersea, London SW11 4LH, serving as a poignant reminder of what once stood there. The image offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the Crown PH was a vibrant hub of social activity and community spirit. Today, the site is home to a St Saviour's Church building, but the memories of the Crown PH live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved it.
