EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the historic Carpenters Arms pub in Kennington, London, as it stood in July 2018. The image, taken from the left side, showcases the classic brick facade adorned with ornate detailing and the distinctive pub sign. The Carpenters Arms, a beloved local establishment, was a popular watering hole for residents and visitors alike. The back of this print reveals the address of the pub, Carpenters Arms, Kennington, London SE11 5AF. However, the passage of time has brought change to this corner of the city. As of now, the Carpenters Arms is no longer in existence. It has undergone several transformations over the years, first being renamed the Castle Tavern, then the Hoops, and finally the Elephant & Hippo. Sadly, it has been demolished and replaced by new housing. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the rich history and character that once defined this part of Kennington. The Carpenters Arms, though no longer physically present, continues to live on in the memories and stories of those who frequented it. This print makes for a thoughtful addition to any collection of London memorabilia or a personal archive of local history.
