EDITORS COMMENTS
Miss England III: Shattering the Watery Barriers of Speed This photograph showcases the sleek and powerful Miss England III speedboat, the last in a series of record-breaking vessels used by the legendary team of Henry Segrave and Kaye Don to challenge the world water speed records during the 1920s and 1930s. The image graced the cover of The Modern Boy magazine in April 1932, accompanying an article penned by the daring Kaye Don himself, who boldly declared his intention to surpass the land speed record. The photograph captures the essence of the era's spirit of adventure and technological innovation. Miss England III, with its streamlined design and powerful engine, embodied the relentless pursuit of speed and the determination to conquer new frontiers. On July 18, 1932, Kaye Don fulfilled his promise, setting a new world water speed record of 119.81 mph (104.11 knots; 192.82 km/h) on the serene waters of Loch Lomond. The record stood for just over a month before being surpassed by a new four-engined Miss America X, which reached a speed of 124.91 mph (108.54 knots; 201.02 km/h). Despite the allure of further records, Kaye Don chose to retire from competitive racing, and Miss England III went on to find a new home in a museum, where it remains a testament to the daring exploits and groundbreaking achievements of its illustrious past.
