EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming photograph, taken circa 1928, we see two young aristocratic boys, Hon. Alexander Ramsay and Hon. George Lascelles, enjoying each other's company. Hon. Alexander Ramsay, the only child of Princess Patricia of Connaught, is seen wearing a tailored jacket and trousers, while Hon. George Lascelles, son of HRH Princess Mary, dons a similar outfit. Both boys exude an air of upper-class refinement and privilege. Princess Patricia, who renounced her royal title and style when she married then-Captain Hon. Alexander Ramsay in February 1919, is fondly remembered for her independent spirit and unconventional choices. Her son, Alexander, grew up to become a respected lawyer and Conservative Member of Parliament. Hon. George Lascelles, on the other hand, was the eldest son of HRH Princess Mary, the Princess Royal, and the future Duke of Gloucester. He went on to serve as a Whip in the House of Commons and was known for his political acumen and dedication to public service. Despite their prominent positions in society, these two boys, who were likely close friends or even pals, are captured here in a moment of carefree playfulness, showcasing the warmth and camaraderie that transcended their aristocratic upbringing. The photograph is a poignant reminder of their childhood and the enduring bonds that can be formed between boys of their class and station.
