EDITORS COMMENTS
This haunting photograph, taken by Sybell Corbet in the library of Combermere Abbey on the afternoon of December 5, 1891, between 2 and 3 pm, captures an eerie apparition that bears a striking resemblance to the late Lord Combermere. At the time of the photograph, Lord Combermere was being interred in the family vault located within the abbey grounds. The 19th century image, which has since become a renowned example of paranormal photography, shows a figure, dressed in the attire of a Victorian gentleman, standing near the fireplace in the library. The figure's transparent form is discernible through the misty veil that surrounds it, adding to the ethereal quality of the photograph. Sybell Corbet, a skilled photographer of the era, was known for her ability to capture the supernatural. She had a keen interest in spiritualism and the occult, and this photograph is believed to be one of her most famous works. The appearance of Lord Combermere's ghost in the library during the time of his burial adds an intriguing layer of mystery to the image. The ghostly apparition of Lord Combermere has since become a subject of fascination for paranormal enthusiasts and historians alike.
