Crown for Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), Coronation 19

The crown for Queen Elizabeth, consort of King George VI, to wear at the 1937 Coronation based on a Victorian circlet and including the Koh-i-Noor diamond. Made by Garrard, it was the first to be entirely mounted in platinum. The foundation is a circlet used by Queen Victoria for Court functions and the Koh-i-Noor (seen in the illustration) is set in the front cross-patee springing from it. A drop-brilliant from the Treasury of Lahore, presented to Queen Victoria by the East India Company, is set in the top cross-patee. This gem was worn by Queen Victoria as a pendant to a diamond necklace. Date: 1937

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the breathtaking beauty and historical significance of the Crown worn by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, at her coronation in 1937. Designed by the renowned British jeweler Garrard, the crown was created using a Victorian circlet as its foundation, making it a fitting tribute to the rich history of the British monarchy. The crown's most prominent feature is the inclusion of the priceless Koh-i-Noor diamond, which was set in the front cross-patee springing from the circlet. This diamond, which means "Mountain of Light," has a storied history and was originally presented to Queen Victoria by the East India Company in 1850. The top cross-patee of the crown features a drop-brilliant from the Treasury of Lahore, another precious gem that was previously worn by Queen Victoria as a pendant to a diamond necklace. The crown was the first to be entirely mounted in platinum, making it a truly unique and precious piece of jewellery. With its intricate design and the inclusion of these priceless gems, the Crown worn by Queen Elizabeth at her coronation was a symbol of the rich history and tradition of the British monarchy.
