EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite commemorative chocolate tin, produced by the renowned J.S. Fry and Sons Ltd in September 1907, marks the historic visit of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra to the Welsh capital city of Cardiff in July of the same year. The enamelled tin box, adorned with intricate red, white, blue, and gold designs, was created as a keepsake to celebrate the royal couple's journey through Wales. The visit of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra to Cardiff was a significant event in Welsh history. The royal couple's arrival was met with great enthusiasm and excitement, as they were the first reigning monarchs to visit the city since 1868. The visit included a grand procession through the streets of Cardiff, as well as a reception at Cardiff Castle and a banquet at the City Hall. The production of this commemorative chocolate tin was undertaken by J.S. Fry and Sons Ltd, a well-established confectionery company based in Bristol and London. The company's expertise in creating high-quality chocolate products made them the ideal choice for producing this special commemorative item. The tin's design reflects the patriotic spirit of the time, with the use of the British colours and the inclusion of the royal monogram. This charming piece of history provides a tangible link to the past, allowing us to imagine the excitement and anticipation that surrounded the royal visit to Cardiff over a century ago. The commemorative chocolate tin is not only a beautiful decorative item but also a testament to the rich history and cultural significance of this momentous occasion.
