Marble base of dedication, 4th century BC
Base of a dedication in Marble. Found in the Athenian Agora. Base of a dedication for victories in the mock cavalry battle contest. Three sides of it have reliefs depicting a horseman riding toward a tripod. The inscription on the fourth side supplies the names of the victorious dedicators and also that of the sculptor Bryavis who carved the monument. It will have supported a bronze tripod dedicated by the victors. Middle of the 4th century BC
