Kunigunde Legend at Chojnik Castle (Kynast)
A hold-to-light card - showing an artists impression of Kynast Castle (Chojnik), a castle located above the village of Sobieszow, today part of Jelenia Gora in southwestern Poland. The ruins of Chojnik are tied to the myth of Kunigunde, the castle lords daughter, who was desired by many knights. As she had no intention to enter into marriage, she promised to marry the bold man who would complete a circuit along the castles walls on a horseback, knowing full well that on the steep slopes horse and rider must fall into the chasm. Many tried and perished until a proud nobleman came along, who appealed to Kunigunde. Although she declared to abandon the precondition and to marry him right away, the knight insisted on taking the risk and he succeeded. Instead of accepting her proposal he scolded her for her cruelty and departed. Kunigunde was so humiliated, she plunged into the abyss herself

The tale goes back to medieval times when Kunigunde, the beautiful and independent-minded castle heiress, found herself the object of desire for many gallant knights. Uninterested in marriage, she devised a challenge to test the mettle and courage of her suitors: the perilous ride around the castle walls on horseback. Knowing full well that the steep slopes would surely cause horse and rider to plummet into the treacherous chasm, Kunigunde's heartless dare left many brave knights dead or injured. One day, a proud and determined nobleman arrived at Chojnik Castle, determined to win Kunigunde's hand.
