EDITORS COMMENTS
This powerful print from Mary Evans Picture Library captures the heartbreaking reality of children mistreated by Huns during World War I. In January 1917, children from German-occupied France were cruelly transported to Holland without food, in unheated carriages. Their family photos and possessions were taken from them, leaving them with nothing but fear and uncertainty. The image depicts the young victims of war, their faces reflecting the atrocities they have witnessed and endured at the hands of German soldiers. These innocent children were treated roughly, evacuated from their homes, and subjected to unimaginable hardships as a result of the brutal events unfolding around them. As we look upon this historical photograph, we are reminded of the devastating impact that war has on the most vulnerable members of society. The propaganda spread by the Huns sought to dehumanize these children and justify their mistreatment, but through images like this one, we are able to see past the lies and remember the humanity that connects us all. Let us never forget the suffering endured by these kids at the hands of those who should have protected them. May their stories serve as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect future generations from such horrors.
