1429 Attack Fortress Joan Orleans Urges Wins Years Tournelles

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative print captures the pivotal moment in history when Joan of Arc, the courageous peasant girl turned military leader, urged the French army to attack the last English fortress at Tournelles during the Siege of Orleans in 1429. With unwavering determination and divine inspiration, Joan, dressed in her iconic armor and carrying her banner, rallied the demoralized French forces to renew their assault on the English stronghold. The Siege of Orleans, which lasted from September 1428 to May 1429, was a turning point in the Hundred Years' War between France and England. The English had held the strategic city since 1427, and their control threatened to split France in two. Joan's arrival on the battlefield in February 1429 brought new hope to the French, who had suffered a series of defeats. Despite facing skepticism and even outright hostility from some of the French commanders, Joan's leadership and battlefield prowess proved invaluable. She led the charge in several successful assaults on the English defenses, and on May 8, 1429, the French forces breached the walls of Tournelles. The English, seeing their position untenable, fled the city, and Orleans was once again in French hands. This print, with its dramatic composition and intricate detail, brings to life the intensity and excitement of this historic moment. The smoke rising from the battlefield, the determined expressions on the faces of the soldiers, and the fierce gaze of Joan herself all serve to transport us back to the medieval world and the events of 1429.
