Wounded soldiers in a horse drawn ambulance probably in the grounds of the Auxiliary Naval Hospital or possibly the end of First World War celebrations at Ladock. The Police man with collar number 108 is thought to be PC Erwin French who joined the Cornwall Constabulary 11.11.1895 after service in the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry and retired from the police force on the 30.06.1923. In a time when horse-drawn carriages were still prevalent, this particular image showcases a horse-drawn ambulance transporting wounded soldiers. The location is believed to be either the grounds of the Auxiliary Naval Hospital or possibly the end of First World War celebrations at Ladock. A notable figure in this photograph is PC Erwin French, whose collar number was 108. He had an impressive background serving in the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry before joining the Cornwall Constabulary on November 11th, 1895. After years of dedicated service, he retired from the police force on June 30th, 1923. Throughout his career, PC Erwin French was stationed at Truro starting from May 20th, 1914. The photographer responsible for capturing this historical moment is Arthur William Jordan. His lens immortalizes not only a significant era marked by World War I but also provides us with a glimpse into everyday life during that time period.
