Home (1820-1886), an American spiritualist and medium, who was known for his alleged ability to rise off the ground during séances. Home's levitation demonstrations, which began in the late 1850s, were a sensation and attracted large crowds, as well as skeptics and critics. The photograph, taken circa 1868, is believed to be one of the earliest visual records of Home's levitation claims.
