The Lord Mayor reading the News of the Victory on the Alma at the Sheriff's Inauguration Dinner, at the London Tavern, 1854. News of the Crimean War reaches London. The Inauguration Dinner of Mr Alderman Muggeridge and Mr. C. D. Crossley, the recently-elected Sheriffs for London and Middlesex, took place...at the London Tavern [and] was rendered memorable on this occasion by the announcement to the assembled guests of the glorious victory obtained by the Allied armies in the Crimea.
