EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, in 1937. Born in 1883, she was the last surviving grandchild of Queen Victoria and held several prestigious titles throughout her life. From birth, she was known as Princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Duchess in Saxony due to her royal lineage. Additionally, she became a Princess of Teck through marriage until George V's Letters Patent commanded her to relinquish these titles in 1917. The image exudes elegance and glamour as Princess Alice gazes directly at the camera with confidence. Adorned with a stunning pearl necklace and a regal tiara atop her head, she embodies the essence of royalty. Feathers delicately placed on her attire add an extra touch of sophistication. Published by RJ Lea Ltd in Manchester for Tournament Cigarettes' Coronation Souvenir cigarette cards collection, this photograph captures not only the beauty but also the historical significance associated with British aristocracy during the early 20th century. As we admire this monochrome studio shot today, it serves as a reminder of Princess Alice's remarkable heritage and influential position within society. Her legacy continues to shine brightly even decades after this image was captured by The Print Collector29 from Heritage Images.
