Together with his uncle, Thomas Percy, Hotspur (1364-1403) led the most serious of a series of uprisings during the reign of Henry IV (c1366-1413). When the rebels met the Kings army at Shrewsbury, Henry emerged victorious, and Hotspur was killed. After rumours persisted that he was not in fact dead, Henry had his body disinterred, quartered and sent to the four corners of the realm

The artist, James William Edmund Doyle, skillfully captures the intensity and tragedy surrounding the death of Sir Henry Percy, also known as Harry Hotspur. Together with his uncle Thomas Percy, Hotspur led a series of uprisings against King Henry IV's reign. However, their rebellion met its demise at Shrewsbury when they faced off against the King's army. In this pivotal moment frozen in time by Doyle's lithograph technique from the 19th century, we witness an epic clash between two forces.
