Born on July 17, 1903, in Bristol, Hammond quickly rose through the ranks of the cricket world, making his debut for Gloucestershire in 1922 and for England in 1928. Known for his elegant batting style and impressive record-breaking performances, Hammond was a key member of the legendary "Three Lions" team of the 1930s, which included W.G. Grace's grandson, Wally Hammond, and fellow greats such as Len Hutton and Hedley Verity. In this image, Hammond is seen in mid-stride, bat poised and ready for action.
