Matteo, a name that echoes through history and carries with it tales of courage, faith, and intrigue. From the Italian Friar and Preacher Girolamo Savonarola who shook Florence with his fiery sermons in the late 15th century to the vibrant fruit labels adorning crates of oranges and lemons. But Matteo's story doesn't end there. It stretches across continents as we encounter MATTEO RICCI, an Italian missionary who ventured into unknown lands during the 16th century. A color engraving from the 17th century captures his determined spirit as he spreads his message far from home. In Malta, amidst the Siege of the Turks in July 1565, Matteo played a crucial role in the Take of Fort Saint Elmo on June 23rd. His bravery shone through as he fought alongside fellow soldiers to defend their land against invaders. Yet not all stories about it can filled with battles and heroism. In one intriguing tale, we find a wife stealing a kiss behind her husband's back from a young man named Matteo. Love knows no boundaries or restrictions, it seems. Traveling back in time to Milan during the 13th and 14th centuries brings us face-to-face with Podestas or Mayors bearing this illustrious name - leaders guiding their city towards prosperity and progress. Artistic depictions also pay homage to Matteo's significance. The angel becomes synonymous with St. Matthew in a bronze sculpture created between 1329-30 while Byzantine school mosaics showcase Saint Matthew within an opulent golden background in an apse mosaic. Contemporary figures carrying this timeless name include athletes like Matteo Pratichetti and Matteo Barbini who excel on fields where strength meets skill. Dan Hipkiss & Matteo Pratichetti form an unstoppable duo leaving spectators awe-inspired by their prowess.
