Matteo, a name that echoes through history and carries with it tales of courage, faith, and intrigue. From the Italian Friar and Preacher Girolamo Savonarola who shook Florence with his fiery sermons in the late 15th century to the vibrant fruit labels adorning crates of oranges and lemons. Traveling back in time to Milan during the 13th and 14th centuries brings us face-to-face with Podestas or Mayors bearing this illustrious name - leaders guiding their city towards prosperity and progress. Artistic depictions also pay homage to Matteo's significance. The angel becomes synonymous with St. Matthew in a bronze sculpture created between 1329-30 while Byzantine school mosaics showcase Saint Matthew within an opulent golden background in an apse mosaic.
