Longswords, a symbol of medieval combat and chivalry, have a rich history in England. The Sword Dance, an ancient tradition, once showcased the agility and skill of warriors wielding these two-handed weapons. William de Longuespee, 3rd Earl of Salisbury (d. 1226), was one such warrior, depicted in an engraving from 1224. The Earl of Salisbury's longsword, as well as Robert, Earl of Essex's, can be found in the annals of history. Fast forward to the 19th century, and the longsword was studied in detail, as seen in an 1879 costume study of a Lansquenet with a two-handed sword. Meanwhile, in Warwick Castle, Claymores or Scottish late medieval two-handed they are on display, remnants of a time long past. Even beyond Europe, the longsword's influence reached the French Druids, who carried a sickle, a symbolic representation of their warrior spirit, resembling the longsword's blade.
