"Hirohito: The Journey of Japan's 124th Emperor" Step back in time with this digitally restored war propaganda poster, showcasing the influential figure of Hirohito. Born as Prince Hirohito in 1901, he embarked on a remarkable journey that would lead him to become the revered Emperor of Japan. In this captivating image from November 3rd, 1916, we witness a young Hirohito riding in his carriage on his way to be formally installed as Heir to the Throne, following the passing of his father Emperor Taisho. The significance of Hirohito's reign cannot be overstated. As the world plunged into World War II, tensions escalated between nations. Here we see an American mule defiantly kicking out at Japanese aggressors - a symbol of resistance and resilience during those tumultuous times. Intriguingly, another snapshot takes us back to Tokyo in 1932 during an attack whose creator remains unknown. This chilling image serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by both Hirohito and his nation throughout history. Yet amidst these trials and tribulations, there were also moments of diplomacy and honor. Prince Henry Duke of Gloucester embarked on a Garter Mission to bestow upon Emperor Showa (Hirohito) the prestigious Stranger Knight title within the Order of the Garter - an accolade initially conferred in 1929 but later revoked due to political circumstances before being rightfully restored in 1971. From coronation garments worn by Emperor Hirohito himself between c1924-1926 to official visits where he represented Japan with grace and dignity – every aspect showcased here paints a vivid picture of an emperor who navigated through turbulent times while striving for peace and prosperity for his people.
