Featherstar, also known as a crinoid or feather star, is a fascinating marine creature that can be found in various locations around the world. One such place is the reef at Cabilao in the Indian Ocean, Indonesia. In this picture (DDE-90024595), taken in Raja Ampat on Misool Island, we get a close-up view of a beautiful featherstar attached to a sea fan. The relationship between these two organisms is quite interesting. Both the featherstar and sea fan filter their food from passing ocean currents, which is why they prefer areas with high currents like this one in Indonesia. This symbiotic bond can often be seen underwater and showcases nature's intricate connections. In Picture No. 10750283, we encounter another species of feather-star called Rosy Feather-star (Antedon bifida) off the coast of Loch Carron in Scotland. It gracefully floats amidst the sea loch's waters during June, adding vibrant colors to its surroundings. Moving on to C014 / 2903 photograph captures an enchanting scene where a featherstar thrives on a reef alongside juvenile cuttlefishes. The sight of these delicate creatures coexisting harmoniously emphasizes the diversity and abundance present within healthy reefs. Lastly, we witness crinoids growing within barrel sponges while exploring an Indonesian reef scene teeming with life. This image highlights not only the beauty but also the resilience of coral ecosystems found throughout Indonesia's waters, and are truly captivating creatures that remind us of nature's wonders beneath our oceans' surface. Whether it be in remote corners like Raja Ampat or closer to home like Loch Carron, encountering these mesmerizing animals leaves us awestruck by their elegance and adaptability within diverse marine environments.
