Once a Royal Air Force Avro Shackleton AEW pilot named Dougal soared the skies over the North Sea, keeping a watchful eye for any threats. Fast forward to the 1930s, and another Dougal made headlines as a talented footballer with Preston North End FC, often seen playing billiards with teammate Tommy Sunderland. But there's more to this name than meets the eye. Meet Dougal, the beloved Scottish terrier of Prince Henry, who brought joy to the royal family. When not on duty or on the football field, Dougal the pilot took to the skies once more, this time in a Piper PA-22-108 Colt, registration G-ARKK. As the years passed, Dougal's name became synonymous with football rivalries, as Stoke City and Wigan clashed in The Championship Showdown on May 16, 2009. But the legacy of Dougal, the name, reaches even further back, to the legendary Macdonnel of Glengarry, whose tales of bravery and honor continue to inspire us today.
