Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabana, also known as La Cabana, is an impressive 18th-century fortress complex located on the elevated eastern side of Havana Harbor in Cuba. This historic defensive position was built between 1763 and 1774, during the Spanish colonial period, to protect the city from potential invasions. The fortress complex consists of several structures, including the main castle, bastions, and a powder magazine. In this photograph, taken in the year 1900, we see the imposing silhouette of the fortress against the backdrop of the Havana skyline. The main castle, with its distinctive red-tiled roof, stands proudly at the center, surrounded by high walls and defensive structures. Cannon emplacements are visible along the walls, ready to defend against any threat. The strategic location of Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabana, at the entrance to Havana Harbor, made it a vital defensive position.
