Young woman in dress with bicycle falling after crash art nouveau 1897
Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts, known in different languages by different names: Jugendstil in German, Stile Liberty in Italian, Modernisme catala in Catalan, etc. In English it is also known as the Modern Style. The style was most popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Epoque period that ended with the start of World War I in 1914.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment frozen in time during the Art Nouveau era of the late 19th century. The image portrays a young woman, dressed elegantly in a flowing dress, as she falls from her bicycle after a crash. The intricate details and graceful lines characteristic of Art Nouveau are evident in every aspect of this composition. The photograph is reminiscent of an age when bicycles were symbols of freedom and independence for women. It beautifully encapsulates the Belle Epoque period, known for its opulence and cultural renaissance before the outbreak of World War I. Originally published in Jugend Band 1 - 1896, this rare edition has been carefully preserved by Grafissimo's own archives. The work is attributed to Bruno Paul, an artist renowned for his contributions to the Art Nouveau movement. As we gaze upon this striking piece, we are transported back to a time when art was not only about aesthetics but also about capturing emotions and telling stories. This print serves as a reminder that even amidst moments of mishap or vulnerability, beauty can still be found. Whether displayed on its own or as part of a curated collection, this exquisite artwork adds depth and character to any space while paying homage to one of history's most influential artistic movements – Art Nouveau.
