Tableau 33 in atlas: Illustrations to Maximilian, Prince of Wieds Travels in the interior of North America. Portrait of two Plains Indian women. The woman of the Snake Tribe, at left, wears a hide dress with fringe, and a purple cloth blanket. The Cree woman, at right wears an elk hide dress, a trade blanket, red face paint, and elaborate earrings made of dentalium shells and blue beads. Her hair is in braids. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels. These illustrations include 81 plates of aquatints.
