PCT4271184 Celebrate hoax: at the Salon des Independants in 1910 was presented a painting signed by the " Excessive Futurist Painter" Boronali, entitled " Et le soleil fell asleep sur l Adriatic", which was a great success. The canvas had actually been painted using a brush attached to the tail by the donkey Lolo, mascot of the cabaret of Montmartre Le Lapin Agile, on the initiative of the writer Roland Dorgeles, 1910 (b/w photo) by French Photographer, (20th century); (add.info.: The canvas sold 20 Louis d Or (the equivalent of about 1500 euros), who were reverted by Dorgeles to the Orphanage of Arts. Today it is part of the permanent collection exhibits at the Paul Bedu Cultural Centre in Milly la Foret. The name of Boronali is the anagram of Aliboron, the name of the donkey in the Fables of La Fontaine. Among the joyful masks mystifiers is Dorgeless side, the cabaret singer Coccinelle. The man feeding the donkey is Father Frede, owner of the animal and animator of the cabaret Le Rabbit Agile.); Photo eGusman; French, out of copyright

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a significant moment in art history. The image showcases a print of the celebrated hoax that took place at the Salon des Independants in 1910. The painting, titled "Et le soleil fell asleep sur l Adriatic" was signed by the enigmatic "Excessive Futurist Painter". Boronali. What makes this artwork truly remarkable is its unconventional creation process. The canvas was not painted by an esteemed artist's hand but rather with a brush attached to the tail of Lolo, the beloved donkey mascot of Montmartre's Le Lapin Agile cabaret. This audacious experiment was initiated by writer Roland Dorgeles. To everyone's astonishment, Boronali's masterpiece became an instant success at the salon. It garnered such admiration that it sold for an impressive sum of 20 Louis d'Or (equivalent to approximately 1500 euros today). Dorgeles selflessly donated these proceeds to benefit the Orphanage of Arts. Today, this iconic piece resides as part of the permanent collection exhibited at Milly la Foret's Paul Bedu Cultural Centre. The name "Boronali" itself holds significance as it is an anagram derived from Aliboron, which refers to La Fontaine's fables featuring a donkey character. In this intriguing photo, we also catch glimpses of other mystifiers involved in this joyful masquerade, including cabaret singer Coccinelle and Father Frede - owner of Lolo and animator of Le Rabbit Agile cabaret - who can be seen feeding his cherished animal companion. Photographed by Patrice Cartier under French copyright law, this image preserves a fascinating chapter in art history where creativity transcended traditional boundaries and left audiences captivated by its whimsical charm.
