This map illustration depicts the stages of the epic three thousand mile chase that took place between May 24 and 27, 1941, during the Second World War. The chase resulted in the destruction of the German battleship Bismarck, in an act of revenge for the loss of H.M.S. Hood. The map begins in the North Atlantic Ocean, with the initial position of the Bismarck, shown in the lower left corner. The subsequent stages of the chase are marked by numbered locations, each representing a critical moment in the pursuit. The British ships, led by the aircraft carrier Victorious and the battleships King George V and Rodney, are shown in pursuit of the Bismarck, which is marked by a red cross. The first stage of the chase, marked by location 1, took place in the North Atlantic, where the British ships initially located the Bismarck. The second stage, marked by location 2, shows the Bismarck's attempt to evade the British fleet by heading towards France.
