Built in 1672 by the Belguy family, this magnificent Tudor-style manor house has borne witness to over three centuries of history. In the 1930s, Derwent Hall was transformed into a youth hostel, providing an affordable and unique accommodation option for travelers seeking adventure and a connection with nature. The warm and inviting atmosphere of the hostel attracted families and groups, who gathered around the fireplace in the cozy living room, shared meals in the communal kitchen, and explored the surrounding countryside on foot or by bicycle. However, the tranquility of Derwent Hall was not to last. In 1945, the completion of the Derwent Dam brought an end to the manor's days as a youth hostel. As the waters of Ladybower Reservoir rose, Derwent Hall and the surrounding village of Ashopton were submerged, leaving only the chimneys and gables of the once-thriving community visible above the surface.
