Copenhagen - Demark - Frederiksborg Palace
Frederiksborg castle is a castle in Hillerod, Denmark. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV, and is now known as The Museum of National History. The current building replaced a previous castle erected by Frederick II (c.1560), and is the largest Renaissance palace in Scandinavia. The palace is located on three small islands in the middle of Palace Lake and is adjoined by a large, baroque formal garden. The Palace was destroyed by fire in 1859 and rebuilt in 1878

EDITORS COMMENTS
Frederiksborg Palace: A Grand Renaissance Masterpiece in the Heart of Denmark Nestled among the tranquil waters of Palace Lake in Hillerod, Denmark, stands the magnificent Frederiksborg Palace, a testament to Danish history and architectural brilliance. Originally built as a royal residence for King Christian IV in the early 17th century, this grand edifice is now home to the Museum of National History and the largest Renaissance palace in all of Scandinavia. The current Frederiksborg Palace replaced an earlier castle erected by Frederick II in the late 16th century. The palace's impressive architecture boasts a symmetrical design, with three small islands in the lake forming the palace's foundation. The building's striking facade is adorned with intricate details, including ornate towers and decorative elements, reflecting the grandeur of the Danish monarchy. Tragically, the palace was destroyed by fire in 1859. However, it was meticulously rebuilt between 1878 and 1885, preserving the original design and beauty of this historical landmark. The surrounding formal garden, with its baroque elements, adds to the palace's charm and completes the picture of a bygone era. Frederiksborg Palace is more than just a stunning architectural marvel; it is a living piece of Danish history. Visitors can explore the museum's extensive collections, which showcase the country's rich cultural heritage. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a history buff, or simply looking for a breathtaking photo opportunity, Frederiksborg Palace is a must-see destination in Denmark.
