Anjar Collection

Anjar is an archaeological site located in Lebanon, in the Bekaa Valley. It was founded by the Umayyad Caliph Yazid II in 705 AD and served as a trading post for goods from Damascus and Baghdad. The city was abandoned after a few decades, but its ruins still remain today. One of the most important heritage sites in Lebanon, and it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. Its ruins include two palaces, two mosques, an aqueduct system, and many other structures that provide insight into life during the Umayyad period, and is home to several ancient tombs that date back to pre-Islamic times.
