EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a truly remarkable moment in the bustling streets of Westbourne Crescent, Bayswater. In this snapshot frozen in time, we witness an extraordinary sight - a swarm of bees taking refuge on a lamppost. It is said that someone recalled the expertise of Mr R Ainslie, an engineer from the new Moscow Road exchange who also happened to be a beekeeper. Intrigued by this unusual request for assistance, Mr Ainslie answered the call and fearlessly approached the buzzing mass with his bare hands. With great skill and care, he delicately removed each bee from their temporary perch one by one. This incredible act of bravery showcases both his dedication to his craft as well as his genuine concern for these industrious creatures. Taken on July 14th, 1937 during the tumultuous period between two world wars, this monochrome image evokes a sense of nostalgia and curiosity about life in Europe during that era. The stillness captured within this frame allows us to reflect upon the significance of even seemingly small events amidst larger historical contexts. As we gaze at this mesmerizing scene through our modern lens, it serves as a reminder not only of humanity's ability to coexist with nature but also our capacity for compassion towards all living beings – no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.
