EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph print showcases the enigmatic figure of Prince Tommaso Alberto Vittorio of Savoy-Genoa, also known as Thomas Albert Victor, the 2nd Duke of Genoa. Born on March 22, 1854, in Italy, he was the eldest son of Prince Tommaso Francesco di Savoia-Carignano and Princess Maria Vittoria di Borbone-Parma. Prince Tommaso Alberto Vittorio held a significant place in Italian history as the last reigning Duke of Genoa. He assumed the title in 1878 following the death of his father, and ruled until the Italian government abolished the Duchy of Genoa in 1861, which marked the end of the House of Savoy-Carignano. Despite the short-lived nature of his ducal reign, Prince Tommaso Alberto Vittorio was a prominent figure in Italian society. His elegance, charm, and charisma were renowned, making him a popular figure among the European aristocracy. In this photograph, he is depicted in formal attire, exuding an air of sophistication and regality. The title of Duke of Genoa and the House of Savoy-Carignano is now extinct, and this photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the rich history and heritage it represents. Prince Tommaso Alberto Vittorio passed away on January 26, 1931, leaving behind a legacy that continues to captivate historians and enthusiasts of Italian history. This photograph print, taken in the late 19th or early 20th century, is a testament to the enduring allure of the Italian aristocracy and the fascinating stories that lie within the pages of history.
